The little village looked peaceful from a distance, but the moment the Divine Dragon's army stepped onto the map, the whole place held its breath. After Chapter 5, a new optional paralogue opens up, and with it comes one of the oldest tricks in the Fire Emblem playbook: a young villager with Aptitude. Jean might start at level one, but recruiting him is a no-brainer for anyone who loves turning a scrawny kid into a late-game powerhouse.

Setup Phase

This map is not here to bully an early team. It leans a little heavy on axes, and since Alear is basically the only reliable sword user at this point, smart baiting and chipping matter more than forcing the weapons triangle. The real star of the show is the Energy Drop sitting in the rightmost house. That little item permanently grants +2 Strength, and the Corrupted are very eager to smash that house before anyone can grab it. If the tactician wants that drop, the clock is ticking from turn one.

A few preparations make the whole run smoother:

  • Bring at least two highly mobile units, because the map is wide and the civilians are in danger.

  • Bring a staff user or Qi-Adept—Framme is the obvious pick early on.

  • Bring a Mystical mage paired with Celica. Her Seraphim tome hits the all-Corrupted enemy roster incredibly hard.

  • Pack weapons like Marth's Rapier or Sigurd's Ridersbane, since there are cavalry enemies hanging around.

Jean's Stronghold

Up north, Jean and his father Sean spend their turns healing civilians who are basically acting as very brave meat shields. It works for a while. The Corrupted swing at the villagers, the healing staves patch them up, and everyone pretends this is a stable situation. Then the Lance Flier on the far east side decides to ruin the party.

That flying unit is the real countdown. Once the Lance Flier reaches the stronghold, things fall apart fast. On Maddening, it can drop Sean or Jean in one or two turns depending on luck, and the boss archer is not far behind. If the flier arrives before any of the player's units can reach the house and the attackers are still alive, it is time to rewind with the Time Crystal and push harder. No shame in it—this map punishes hesitation.

Battle Plan

Enemies 3x Mage, 2x Barbarian, 3x Axe Fighter, 2x Sword Cavalier, 1x Lance Flier, 3x Archer
Deployment 7 Units
Victory Conditions Defeat all enemies
Treasures Defense Tonic, Energy Drop, Surge, Pure Water
Difficulty ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (3/10)

The opening move is simple: send Alear to visit the nearby house, then place Framme next to Alear for Chain Guard. Those two can handle the western side without much support. Meanwhile, the tankiest mobile unit should rush east and park themselves in the woods, baiting almost everything except the mage into a bad time. The rest of the army focuses on cleaning up the immediate threats to the east.

Once that eastern pocket is cleared, the group should split. A cavalry unit should keep sprinting for the Energy Drop house, while the others head north in earnest. Using Celica's Warp Ragnarok to delete one of the enemies in front of the civilians is a very satisfying play and highly recommended. Alear and Framme can follow, but on the large map they often end up just jogging behind the action. Unless the difficulty is Maddening, they may not see much combat after the first few turns.

Defending The Stronghold

By the time the main force reaches Jean's home, the remaining Corrupted are usually close enough to knock on the door. The goal becomes simple: keep the bad guys out of civilian range and use the garden's shrubbery like a tactical blanket.

Placing units in the bushes between the enemies and the civilians allows for clean, efficient trades. On Maddening, holding the choke points at both garden exits is almost mandatory. On Normal and Hard, the map is forgiving enough that this becomes more of a tidy cleanup than a desperate stand. Every saved civilian adds to the final reward, while Sean can fall in this map without changing the outcome—though Jean must survive on Classic mode to join the roster.

Post-Battle Exploration

After the last Corrupted falls, the post-battle exploration offers a little treasure hunt:

  • 100 Bond Fragments next to the house

  • Two oranges in the orange bush

  • 120 Iron Ingots on another corner of the same house

  • Four Steel Ingots next door to the west

  • More oranges, wheat flour, and a potato in the garden

The garden also hides a White Elyosian Dog, and that good boy is worth adopting. A sheep stands near Jean's home, and a chicken wanders near Alfred and Vander. All three animals can be adopted for achievements or to fill out the paddock. With Jean, ingots, and a new furry friend in tow, the tactician can head back to the Somniel and start using the newly opened Arena. Jean may be level one, but between Aptitude and a few arena workouts, he will catch up before anyone can say "growth rates."
